Renewable energy

The Ökostromgesetz (Green Electricity Act), which came into force on 1 January 2003, introduced a national system for renewable electricity support payments. The act made E-Control responsible for monitoring attainment of the system's objectives.

The green power support scheme affects market participants in a variety of ways. Electricity suppliers are allocated supported renewable energy. System operators must adapt to the volatility of wind power output.
