The liberalised gas market
The liberalised gas market
Since gas market liberalisation in October 2002 Austrian consumers have been free to choose their suppliers, irrespective of their system operators. The suppliers are responsible for schedule management and can balance demand that diverges from their schedules by recourse to storage or balancing energy markets. The net energy price is driven by the laws of supply and demand, while the charges for transporting gas are set by order (i.e. regulated).Functioning competition is the key to transparent, cost-reflective gas price formation in Austria. The sub-items under the gas price menu item take you to information on the components of gas prices in Austria, international price comparisons and developments of wholesale prices over time.
