Electricity consumers have to pay the following taxes and surcharges:

  • Energy charge: among other forms of energy, also electricity is subject to taxation through the energy charge. The energy charge in Austria amounts to 1.5 cent/kWh.
  • Community levy: some communities collect a levy for the use of public property for e.g. electricity grids.
  • VAT: 20% VAT are added to all price components.
  • Renewables support: the renewables contribution and the flat-rate renewables charge per metering point

Consumers of natural gas have to pay the following taxes and surcharges:

  • Gas levy: like oil, LP gas and electricity, natural gas is subject to a consumption levy. The natural gas levy in Austria is 6.60 cent/normal cubic metre.
  • Community levy: some communities collect a levy for the use of public property by natural gas distribution pipelines.
  • VAT: 20% VAT are added to all price components.
