The Regional Initiatives for the electricity and natural gas markets

The European energy regulators are working on the establishment of regional energy markets as an intermediate step towards the ultimate goal, i.e. the Internal Energy Market. To this end, the European energy regulators and the European Commission founded the Regional Initiatives in 2006. The Regional Initiatives are a working platform not only for energy regulators but also for governments and market players, aiming to achieve consensus on the broadest common basis.

The Electricity Regional Initiative (ERI)

ACER's Regional Initiatives comprise seven electricity regions. E-Control is the lead regulator of the Central and Eastern Europe region.

The Gas Regional Initiative (GRI)

What has been said for electricity also holds for gas. Here, regions are defined in accordance with the main supply routes, resulting in three regions: South Southeast, Northwest and South. E-Control is a member of the South Southeast gas region.
